Generation gap?

So MM Lee goes on TV and has a forum with journalists who are below 30 years old. And then the media goes berserk running letters and articles all over. Everyone is saying why is there a generation gap. It's no good and all.....

Well is there a generation gap? Maybe we should get the journalists to go to some older HDB estates or old folk's homes and speak to pre-1965ers instead of speaking to MM Lee. MM Lee is a man always ahead of his time. If anything he's ahead of the post 1965 generation and not part of the pre 1965 generation!

And if the journalist start saying that they are thinking in the same way that the pre-1965 generation is thinking I'd be extremely worried. I mean hey it's 2006 now! If the below 30 year olds are still thinking like the pre-1965 generation, it spells disaster for the nation! Don't you think so?

On the other hand I would say that a large number of below 30 year olds, do still think like the pre-1965 generation and thus the government need not worry so much and be" sad" or anything, there is in many cases absolutely NO GENERATION GAP!

We should be careful what we wish for.

These young ingrates can only ask stupid questions now of a venerated icon.

They don't know how difficult it was for us who witnessed separation from the shithole up north and how the older generation toiled and built the nation to what it is today.

Without us, those so called young generation would be living off rubbish heaps like they do in some third rate banana republic.

Just a thought, uglubaldie, were you an ex-politician?

Did you do any grassroots work?

Just want to know how you contributed to making our nation it is today.

I'm under the impression that it is all the work of only the good guys in white from the PAP. And I personally do admire LKY and gang for it! No doubt aout it.

But I see many older folks speak like they were the PAP and want the same reverence as LKY himself. That I find somewhat strange personally.

To have to explain to you how the "older folks" contributed to making Singapore what it is today, other than taking part in politics or grassroots work, would be an insult to you because then, you obviously don't understand very much of the world around you other than quackery.

It is people like you that Singapore has since produced, and the ingrates seen in the debate (and, admittedly, my own children) that worries me.

Just a little tip to evoke your thinking power (if there is any);-) Who, along with the government made Singapore an industrial and commercial hub back in the 60s to 80s, two critical deciding decades of growth that started the little island on the path to being a first world. You obviously cannot achieve very much if you don't have the population working hard, getting paid little to support you in your task of bringing economic prosperity to the country. Back then, China was still in the grip of strict communism and hence no foreign investments went there. With the formidable leadership of the MM and the willing hands and minds of the population, foreign funds flowed into Singapore like water, boosting the Sing dollar and generated a GDP growth per annum in double digits. Even a taxi driver and a bus conductor then would have been deemed to contribute to the country's economic growth. To make the analogy even simpler for you to understand, even a lowly soldier cooking grub in a theatre of war would be deemed to have contributed to the campaign's success or failure. And the general if he is anything of a general would acknowledge it as such.

In case you are wondering. Someone working in the securities industry would also be deemed to contribute to the building up of the economy because he handled stock investments from fund inflows from neighbouring countries encouraged by the island's vigorous growth. Again, any investment inflows would boost the value of the Sing. dollar or GDP growth.

If you are still muddling around with the logic of business and economics, we are now living mostly on the huge reserves built up in those years of growth. Most investments have gone to China or India. Which is why an elected president has to guard the reserves and an astute government to ensure that our reserves are invested wisely and safely to further enrich the country. From a net importer of investments, we are now a net exporter. We have now joined the ranks of industrialised countries in investing in developing countries along with the G7 economic powers who were the first wave.

We were toiling and made Singapore a 'tiger' economy along with Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea whilst you were playing marbles in Hawaii?

Even opposition politicians and dissidents have economic value in nation building.

They provide mirth and merriment after a hard day's work with their hare brain ideas and ideals.

Please don't ask me what economic values quacks have in nation building!

I see, thank you very much for the confirmation of my suspicions.

However I don't see many atricles in the papers of accolades given to the people as the reason for Singapore's success. It's always the PAP, LKY, GKS, etc who were the real reason why Singapore succeeded.

The history books are written such that LKY and the PAP were far far more important than the Singaporeans in making Singapore a success.

And I still believe this is true.

For example, it is a popular rumour that if LKY had indeed succeeded in winning a majority in Malaysia, he would have transformed Malaysia into a world superpower. So Singapore is far luckier to have had LKY than LKY is lucky to have had Singapore.

At least that's the impression I keep getting from reading the books and papers and listening to the TV and radio.

By the way, here is another brain twister perhaps even a brain storming idea.

Why don't we exchange these ingrates with some brainy youngsters from say, Vietnam.

When they are there, they'll be pining for home and think that our MM is the greatest.

Hee Hee!

LMAO. (This, I think you know!)

Hey uglybaldie, what is it with you and doctors? You hate us so much?

You also hate young Singaporeans very much too.

All this hatred and dissatisfaction.....

Are you representative of the pre-1965 generation?

Sigh I guess it's better for us young people to shut up, be good children, follow whatever our elders tell us to do, seek our elders approval before we do anything, and continue to place all elders on pedestals for past contributions regardless of the changing global conditions.

Frankly I don't even see LKY promoting such things himself!

That shithole, a possible world superpower??????

Gimme a break!

They are waiting for the coconuts to drop from the tree instead of climbing up to pluck it!

Even ten LKYs will not transform that shithole into a small player let alone a world superpower.

Let's face it. Who really owns the assets of the shithole? You are as naive and uninformed as i envisioned.

"However I don't see many atricles in the papers of accolades given to the people as the reason for Singapore's success."

You will see it around election time which is about now. Keep your eyes peeled ok.

Can't be helped. That is the way the world works!

Hee Hee!

Anyway here's a plea to uglybaldie.

I am not a politician. I am not grassroots volunteer. I personally do not believe that I have a say in Singapore's politics or governance at all.

So do me a favour. If you really want to talk about politics and slam young people and ingrate youth, please go to the correct blogs and websites.

why not try http://commentarysingapore.blogspot.com

I'm sure you'll have more fun with the verbal exchanges there.

Why bother with an small fry, quack, politically, economically naive bozo like me? Unless it is because you have no confidence in your own ability to stand up among the real men and continue to choose to boost your ego by picking on little boys like me?

So please do me a favour, go join the big guns ok?

Read the latest entry.

I've changed. This is not Australia. It will never be Australia, can never be Australia and should never be Australia.

I'm just starting to toe the line and be a good responsible Singaporean.

People change. I've decide to be a good boy and appreciate all the hard work the pre-1965 generation has put in to give us a stable, racially harmonious, economically viable country to live in.

Let's all just be peacefull happy loving fellow countrymen. Spend time with our families, go to our jobs and earn a good living. It is the politics of life. Not politics for the sake of politics.

Good for you boy to at last see the light.

Bring your wife and kids to the upcoming Great Singapore Sale. Get the wife some nice branded clothing and perhaps a "Gucci" or "Lious Vuitton" handbag? Your kids would love the latest model handphone, MP3 player. And be kind to yourself, get an iDesire massage chair from Osim to caress away your woes and worries. I did. It costs me seven friggin' k bucks but I tell ya man, it's worth every penny.

Life is too short to be idealistic and dogmatic lah. Anyway, the battle to fight for pole position in world economic stakes has already been won by us old timers lead by our MM. So just sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labour instead of whining and griping and sulking.

The next time you gripe about censorship in singapore, look at the mirror and see if it appears to be a reflection of all you dislike.

Nothing to do with whether you like it or not.

It's a way of life in Singapore. If you're not happy then go to some other country.

But if you are here, then live by the law of the land.

hey uglybaldie, why don't you go to Mr Wang's blog instead and post some of what you said to me?

More relevant there lah.

Anyway my wife and I are not that rich and extravagant lah.

I have no interest in Louis Vuitton. I didn't even know LV was short form for it.

OSIM chairs? I only bought one for my mother. Young people like me don't need it.

Save money lah. You never know when it will rain heavily. I dun think we should rest on our laurels and take for granted the stuff the elders have built up for us.
