Why do eye surgeons continue to wear glasses?

The Sunday Times ran an article asking eye surgeons why they choose to wear glasses and not contact lenses.

The answer given was that there was always a risk of infection with contact lenses. And they didn't want to have that risk.

Well perhaps they should have simply asked the eye surgeons why wear glasses when they are recommending all sort sof alternatives, contact lenses are obviously not one of them, but what about Lasik?

I always find it strange to see all these eye surgeons telling patients to stop wearing glasses, go for Lasik, operate on them all this while wearing traditional frame glasses themselves!

Some parallels with a obese and fat doctor teaching a patient how to lose weight. I would find it strange. Wouldn't you?

I think doctors should practise what they preach!

Surgeon needs their precious eyes to make the 'iron rice bowl' leh.The surgeons are smart enough to know what suits them the best. Even if with lasik, there is a chance of 0.0000000000001% of getting infection, I doubt they will still take the risk. That's goes the same for me if I was one of them. Actually, I like men who wear glasses. So cute and si boon.
That's the way ah huh ah ahuh
I like it ;p

I also wear glasses :)

I have a a bit of myopia and more astigmatism. So does my wife. So we usually wear glasses when we drive at night.

I find that lately due to staring at the computer for too many hours, my myopia is getting worse as well. So I wear glasses when I'm on the PC as well.

I will never go for Lasik!

What an irony, sigh...and there are some skinny docs who can't teach their patients how to lose weight through actual diet plan. I guess they did not have to struggle with weight problems and thus totally have no idea or experience to teach. Some people can eat like crazy and don't put on weight.

Some fat docs can share their experiences yet they are still struggling with it.

Just curious, dr oz you will not go for lasik and I guess you will not go for mesotherapy either.

A teenager once told me that he caught his doc smoking away the minute he closes his clinic, the thing is this teen just heard the doc telling another patient to stop smoking abt 5 mins ago.

I wouldn't go for mesotherapy. However I do know what mesotherapy entails and I would say it's a cosmetic procedure to target difficult to shape subcutaneous fat in certain areas of the body. However in the larger scheme of losing weight/body fat for health issues, mesotherapy is useless.

Somewhat similar to how they found that patients who underwent liposuction had no health benefits from the operation.

I actually had a weight problem. I'm one of those that will grow damn fat if I don't watch what I eat. And I did grow fat. 91kg was my heaviest to be exact. I'm 1.76m. Having a BMI of close to 30 was not one of the proudest periods of my life.

I eventually got my weight down to 71kg and then after a period of folly, it went back up to 81kg. Now it's a stable 75-76kg and I'm pretty happy with that weight. Working more on gaining some lean muscle mass right now that will help increae my BMR and burn some extra calories a day.

I'll say this though. I know how to lose weight. I know how to control weight. It's simple. There are steps and you just follow them. No drugs they don't work alone and they're last choice adjuncts. However it isn't easy. And I know why there are so many fat people out there who would rather believe they are fat because it's in their genes! LOL!
