Where got time?

Haha! I've realized I'm changing my mindset these days.

More bo chup and bo hue. Where got time? Manai wu eng?

Time to enjoy life liao lah. Fight so hard for what? Worry so much for what? Where got time?

Recently got inline skates for the whole family. Cost me about $750 for all the skates and protective gear for my 2 kids, wife and me. Ok lah. Went skating yesterday at the beautiful walkway besides the river just at my HDB flat!

Damn shiok man! This is the life!

In other news, just realised that out of the 3 new candidates that PAP announced, I have personally met 2 of them before. They didn't seem to be all that impressive to me before and neither do they look any different right now. I guess PAP is looking for more simple, down to earth type of people to join them. Or maybe they just can't find any better. Maybe I should start doing some grassroots work....waitaminute! WHERE GOT TIME?!!! Haha!

Concentrate on being happy better lah. Psycho myself Singapore is really very very very good place to live. Cheap comfortable housing with beautiful park by the river downstairs for a start!

I've never been happier for the past 3 years man! I finally see the light liao! YAHOOOOOO!!!!!

WHERE GOT TIME??!!!!!

Walio,

You gone crazy or what?

Your moods are so ambivalent that I doubt whether if you do grassroots work for a hundred years that you'll be a possible MIW candidate. At least not during my lifetime. But you can try the opposition. They would welcome you with open arms since they aren't really that choosy. If you get in, It would really be showtime when you are in one of your less euphoric moods.

But OZY, glad you've joined me in my view of this world and everything in it. And besides your new found elation, remember what Gordon Gecko said in "Wall Street":

GREED IS GOOD.

I live by this creed not some stupid oath dreamt of by Mr. Hippocrate when he was on one of his pipe dreams.

Hee Hee, welcome to the club man.

Dr Oz

Just a thought, doc like you should be working in Polyclinics, where lots of poor, not so well-informed patients would benefit from your education and time spent on them.

There are lots of kiasee and bu chup docs there.

I'm sure you will be most welcome by the patients there.

At 7:05 PM, Blogger Dr Oz bloke said...

Dear anon,

you don't understand do you? If I worked at the Polyclinic I would also become bo chup in my work and won't talk so much to patients.

Down there got soo many patients! Where got time? It's not easy to try to explain things to old and poor people. It takes a lot of effort and time to explain to them cos they have little education and have difficulty understanding medical things.

So the survival mechanism for docs working in Polyclinics is to be bo chup and kiasee. Otherwise they either go crazy, kena scolding by the registrar for being too slow or DIE (kena something wrong and sued!)

Moral of the story is.....if you want to do good GP work, and you are a good affable doctor/person, don't work for polyclinic!

Where...got....time?

And you work too hard, seems like you haven't been enjoying yourself with games and hobbies.

Spent lots of time with your kids esp. at this age, bring them to places of interest, libraries, parks, playgrounds, etc and at the same time, you too can de-stress.

Take care and enjoy yourself.

Well certain jobs have certain work hour demands.

It's not your choice frankly. Of course can choose to work less hours and earn less etc. Easier said than done lah. This is Singapore you know. Cannot be choosy in job.

At the moment I'm happy with the time I have. In fact I was just looking at my schedule again and realize that for the hours I work I earn a very good salary!

Yeah these days we go to the river to walk, scooter, roller blade more. Singaporeans are more sporty mah. Must copy copy.

Worry about life?

Where got time?

Dr Oz

I see your point but what makes you think that the polyclinic have only old and poor patients.

Nowadays, I do see patients of different ages there, from students, 20 to 40s, I am sure they are educated, some comes in big cars too.

Maybe, I see things from a patient's angle and know nothing abt the medical world.

I am sure there are one to two docs there, who are like you - trust me.

Nowadays some polyclinics aren't that bad unlike many years back, the docs and nurses treat patients badly and even scolds them too but still lots of bo chup health care workers there.

The working hours are fixed and shorter than elsewhere.

Too many patients, try the evening hours to see for yourself.

At 9:10 PM, Blogger Dr Oz bloke said...

Next question anon,

How does the Polyclinic pay the doctors?

Trust me they don't pay as well as my current job. And they work much harder there.

If I want to serve the poor and old I'd rather do it at my own terms in my clinic. If I want to serve people who drive big cars the Polyclinic would be the last place I'd go!

Those people go Polyclinic who drive big car are the giam sup type dun want to pay for value. Serve them and be paid low?

Where got time?

More time to bring kidz to movies? : )

At 9:50 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

True, some comes in big cars, not all, the majority are still not so well to do.

The rich ones are not suppose to be there, I'm sure uglybaldie will agree with me.

Sorry, can't answer yr question, don't know but of course, you know better.

Was surprised to find some docs from pte practice working there, expected to find only newbies.

Private doctors working at Polyclinics?

Times are bad for private GPs lah.

Bother about such stuff?

Where got time?

At 4:46 AM, Blogger Flatfeet said...

Oz, I agreed with Anon. Think you overworked yourself at some point that now you are turning yourself into bochup/'where got time mode'. Take it at a slower pace then. Don't say bo chup so soon. To my understanding, you seems to be a great family man. However, you need to try to do something that suit yourself too.Pretending happiness to cover misery is not gonna help on the long run.

I don't condemn any Drs working in polyclinic. I believe some do really enjoy their work every much despite the fact taking a lower pay. Still, I'm sure they are happy what they are doing at the end of day.

Dr Oz, time for rejuvenation.

Yeah Polyclinic doctor can be happy.

I also happy what!

I really am happy. Honestly!

Where got time to be unhappy :)

LMAO!

At 9:12 PM, Blogger uglybaldie said...

Ozy,

you seem to be suffering from happy unhappiness syndrome.

Suggest you choose
one of these solutions to your problem.

1. See a shrink. IMH cheapest.

2. Go to a spa and relax with some sensual massage every other day.

3. Go to church more often. Better still become a pastor.

4 Go to Lim Chu Kang and rear chickens.

5. Have an affair. It will do you a world of good. You seem to be suffering from work and marriage fatigue.

To Anon.

"The rich ones are not suppose(sic) to be there, I'm sure uglybaldie will agree with me."

For people on long term medication, they should get diagnosis and prescription from their private specialists (who cracked his head to come up with the remedy to your problem) then go to the polyclinics and get the junior quacks to write out the same prescription and get subsidised drugs. The polyclinic docs. are usually very obliging and will give you what you want. Since they are so kiasi, they don't want complaints logged into their files. Subsidised drugs albeit generics are much much cheaper. Even for non standard drugs, it is still much cheaper than the private specialists or guardian because polyclinics buy in bulk and the markup is marginal. And you don't have to worry about the quality of the generics because they have senior pharmacists to vet and validate the drugs' efficacy and quality. For once, my pharmacists friends are doing some useful and meaningful work!!!

After saving a bomb, more money to spend at Ah Yat Abalone Restaurant and live seafood at the old Racecourse!!! Yam Seng!

Oz seems to be in some sort of happiness- not- denial note. I bet everyone can sense it except oz himself of course.
Think rather than rejuvenation, oz needs to seek medical help sooner or later.

This is hilarious!

I'm honestly happy guys. Seriously. Like I said it's a change in mindset. Simple effective.

Look on the bright side of things from now on. I've known this for a long time actually. Just that I was working so hard at migration that I continually reinforced my views to motivate myself toward that goal.

Of course there are always 2 sides of the coin.

I'm alright. Honest.

Just looking at the bright side of things from now on. Being content with my life. Appreciating the things I have rather than the things I do not have.

Thanks for the concern. But I really am fine.

The where got time stuff and all is really for fun and laughter ok?

Cheers!

You think so, though the docs at polyclinic are kiasi and bochup, they are not stupid, ok.

For long term medication cases, say hypertension, when you want to repeat yr prescription there, they would always ask for a letter from your present doc, if not they would not take over your case.

The docs there are very impersonal and all patients are just another case to them, so what makes you think that you will always get your way. Because you're more handsome or rich or you'll threaten them.

At 5:36 PM, Blogger uglybaldie said...

Anon,

Which polyclinic did you go to.

I've met some of the nicest doctors in the polyclinics when I bring my mum there. The main reason why she likes to go to the polyclinic rather than somewhere else is because she likes the young docs there who always treat her in a manner like her grandsons.

What you say is not true. And you can take it from me that when I say they're good, they are good. I am a hard man to please.

At 8:22 PM, Blogger Dr Oz bloke said...

Hmm maybe Polyclinic has become a lot better in recent years?

Does sound like it from what uglybaldie says. No wonder business is so bad for private GPs!

Haha!

Anyway one thing to note is that where did private GPs start off? Polyclinics lah!

The western side and your mum?

What I am saying is from my own experiences and feedback from some friends and reliable sources and I am talking abt chronic conditions that requires long-term medication, not the normal illnesses.

For the common illness, of course. any doc and even the worst doc can give you anything medicine you requests but for chronic condition - it's another story entirely.

On the other hand, I don't blame them for requesting a letter from your GP mainly because they need to know the history and how well it has been controlled or out of control.

Secondly, what sort of patient are you, one who takes your medicine as instructed or do whatever you like and blames your doc for everything that goes wrong. There are more reasons I can think of but not sure if it's what the doc has in mind - hope Dr oz would enlighten me further.

I am not saying that all docs at the PC are lousy, have seen worst ones in the private sector and wonder why am I paying so much more for a pte doc, who can't address my concerns or educate me, but only write presciptions and repeat medications, any doc in the PC can do that.

See my earlier postings to Dr Oz, told him there are one or two very good docs in the PC and I do have the privilege of seeing two of them after two years with them, and they are always in my prayers.

Is your mum just normal patient or chronic condition that requires long term medication?

Hope you don't mind me asking, to be sure we are talking abt the same thing.

At 11:49 PM, Blogger Dr Oz bloke said...

Actually, at the end of the day, it's not whether it's a private doctor or a government doctor or polyclinic doctor.

It's whether you like the doctor or not. If you can find a good doctor who you can see reliably at a Polyclinic. Hey that's great, cos it's obviously a lot cheaper for you.

At least you have a choice. As a doctor I can't choose my patients.

Today a patient came to see my boss. After waiting for 2 hours (cos my boss takes his time with his patients, he also comes late and there is already a queue waiting) she couldn't wait any longer and came to see me next door.

When she came in I greeted her with a smile said very nicely, "hi how can I help you?"

And she said "Everything is no good"

And I asked "in what way is everything no good? Where? Which part of your body?"

And she said "Whatever"

Anyway she was not interested in seeing me. She just wanted to throw tantrums. Strangely when patients throw tantrums, then my boss will appease them.

Anyway it was extremely unpleasant for me when I realized that she had no intention to have a proper consultation and really just wanted to vent her frustrations on me.

Sometimes what can you do with such people? Sigh. She spoiled my day today.

Anon.

Just woke up from my afternoon nap. Friggin' good sleep. Today nice and cool with a slight drizzle. Funny, I dreamt about OZy driving through the night in real stormy weather somewhere in australia. Wonder where he was rushing to. The terrain looks familiar though!! Hee Hee, LMBBO.

OKy, doky, coming back to your queries, my mum is being followed up by a masters in family medicine at a polyclinic in the East. Young man, so pleasant, cheerful and optimistic! No letters from her previous doc. was needed as he had re diagnosed her condition and concurred 100% with her previous private specialist. Perhaps, when we mentioned the name, he was overawed? Not only gave her the medication she needed but also gave her soothing words of comfort which she later told me worked better than the medication. If I want to start a private hospital, this is the man that I would want to be the chief operating officer! And the consultation fee? 4 (yes four) friggin' bucks can you imagine?

Because of her age, my mom has a chronic condition. She is 85 but can walk and shop on her own. When she rides the MRT, almost everyone stands up to give her a seat but she usually waves them to sit down because it is not tiring for her to stand for a while. But sometimes to be gracious, she will take an offered seat. Who says the singapore public is uncaring and impolite? But the funny thing is that once when I took an MRT ride no one offered me a seat although I'm in my sixties!

My goodness, such patients do exists, sorry it spoils yr day.

She is having a terrible day, probably suffering from PMT, bad day with boss, bf/husband that's why can't tell you exactly, what's bothering her. All she needs is someone to hear her out, whatever she needs to say, you will definitely get to hear it, just be patient, like yr boss, you have all the time you need to hear her out.

Can't really say she is not interested to see you, she did walk into your room, right, why not just give a chance and see how you can help her.

So, what happens after that and how did the consult ends. Just curious.

Is your mum under the new scheme called the Family Physician Clinic, where there is only one doc with the Masters in Family Medicine for chronic cases only. If not, how come she can always see the same doc.

Eversince, last yr they started the appt system, patients cannot request for the doc of their choice, that's what happens over here.

That's why I always got problem with registration and my poor doc(Masters in Family Medicine) have to help me out.

They will be starting this scheme here soon and these patients will get to see the same family physician at every visit, who happens to be my very good doc.

Just realise that you are talking abt Singhealth PC and not National Healthcare grp PC, which does not have a branch in the East, am I right?

My is NHGP PC.

Tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk tsk TSK!!!!!

Uglybaldie, considering the obscene amounts of money you make or have made in the stock market.....

You still make your 85 (yes EIGHTY-FIVE for heaven's sake!!!!!) year old mother take the MRT?

I know she is still going strong and all but I would think giving her an allowance to take a cab and have chats with the nice taxi driver shouldn't be too much of a problem for you.

Better to be safe than sorry. One fall and she may injure herself quite badly.

At 6:21 PM, Blogger uglybaldie said...

To: Anon,

Nope, she is not on any scheme. Just walk in and walk out, one happy old lady, after a soothing talk with another of her "grandsons".

Yes, Singhealth group is running the Polyclinics in the East. They do a friggin' good job. I don't have any complaints. Polyclinics even airconditioned, though it may not be the brightest idea with cross infections and all that. But I am really appreciative of the cost. A tiny fraction of what we used to pay for the private specialist. But the main thing is, she gets to see her "grandson" now and then.

To: OZy,

My mom has a full time maid by her side all the time. Taking our world class mrt is a treat for her ok? You may be taking your meals mostly in a posh restaurant but once a while, it is really nice to have a meal at a roadside eatery. Get the idea? I myself sometimes take the mrt. I like to ogle at the sexy girls and sometimes make eye contact just across a distance of about 1 metre. We have all the time in the world for a 1 hour journey. When I travel, I like to live with the common folks to get a taste of real native life not cooped up in some five star hotel.

Ok lah that's better. Just be careful with old folks.

Good that you care for her well.

Was just a bit concerned that's all.
