Downright nasty people

There are some downright nasty people in this world. That's a fact. These people are all around us everywhere as well.

And sometimes they end up as patients in the ER or in the clinic room. That's when my day gets all unpleasant.

Well what can you do? Turn the other cheek and let them whack you senseless? That's one way I suppose.

That's the price we pay as doctors. Worse still they are under some god forsaken HMO that pays pittance for consult and medicine (<$20!!!)

Tomorrow is another day, and it will be a good day......

Hee Hee,

Everyone is nasty except you?

What do you expect?

It's not easy to earn a living.

So grin like a monkey and bear with it!

Unless, you want to live in the void deck!

LMBBO!

Of course. Life's like that. There are good days and there are bad days.

Today has been good so far :)

I hope you have a good day today.

Yes, nasty people are everywhere, even with doctors too.

Just met one last week, not really nasty but rather insulting.

So, what do patients do, still we got to pay for their services and swear never to step into his clinic again.

Always been a nice and reasonable patient and this is what I got.

Maybe the doctor was having a bad day? Maybe an hour before you he met with this nasty patient who scolded him?

The question I have for you anonymous is whether this doctor is always nasty to you when you "Always been a nice and reasonable patient"

If so then why bother going back? If it's the first time you're seeing this doctor, then it has nothing to do with you "Always been a nice and reasonable patient". First impressions count. If it's my first time at a clinic and the doctor is nasty, naturally I won't go back to the clinic.

But as a doctor, we can't choose our patients. The nasty patients who are usually nasty can still come back. Especially if we accomodate them. And then after a while it just gets to me, why should I let myself be abused all the time by this person? But I don't really have a choice.

At least as a patient you have a choice to avoid nasty doctors. Doctors can't choose their patients unfortunately.

But it's all part of the job and we learn to roll with the punches :)

Similarly I also understand that some patients might be having a bad day as well.

It has happened. Usually nice patient comes in and is nasty. I try my best to play along pretending nothing is different. I sometimes ask if they are having a bad day and sometimes we talk about it. Sometimes they don't want to talk about it. It's fine.

What I meant in my entry about downright nasty people are those patients that the moment they step into the room and you say a nice "Hello" with a big smile to them, they start showing you black face, scolding and shouting at you eg Wait too long (5min?), my clinic walls too dirty, my table too untidy, I look too young etc etc...

No logic leh. But well it's part of the job.

huh? You so subservient ah?

Tell you what, next time, refuse to pay. Tell him to call the police or collect from your lawyer.

Worst case scenario. Tell him to fly kite.

Don't collect the medicine though.

Don't ever need to be nice to doctors. There is one round every corner. A dime a dozen. They are just a purveyor no different from the corner barber shop.

Gee uglybaldie, from what you say, it seems like you are not a nice person at all. Especially to dime a dozen type of people, and specifically you mentioned, barbers.

I prefer to treat everyone nicely regardless of who they are.

What does that make you?

Dr Oz

It's my first visit, and I do notice the clinic is getting very crowded after waiting for an hour and the doc is pretty busy. He should be glad that he has lots of patients, it's his own clinic after all.

Sorry, to hear abt yr type of nasty patients, actually, what you mentioned abt them complaining abt yr room and everything under the sun, got me laughing. Actually, I was pretty shock by the state of this doc's room, more like a store room, he stores containers, pails and lots of rubbish below the bed(what is the correct term for it?).

My regular doc's room is a thousand times neater and cleaner than his. Don't get me wrong, not complaining but was rather shock and it's my first time seeing a doc's room in such terrible state.

Don't think he's having a bad day, guess his ego is bruised because this patient seems knowledgeable.

Of course, I am not going back for sure.

And if I am not a nice patient, would my present new doctor(public) give me his email and contact no.

When I find a gd doc, I usually goes back to him, that's why all my previous GPs know me for as long as 10 years or more till I move to another estate.

Guess, life is like that, so why let these nasty people spoilt yr day. Just get it out of yr system by blogging or telling someone and you will feel much better.

Dear anonymous,

You couldn't have said it better. Well there are various different types of people in the world, in Singapore, on the internet and even among the readers who comment at my blog *wink*.

So we just gotta live with it!

Cheers!

Just woke up from a really cool afternoon nap. Wow, what a cool day.

"What does that make you?"

Someone calling the shots all the time.

But it's friggin' good fun though.

I enjoy my "work".

Thank you for not obliterating my comments. I see in a short space of time, you have "grown up"
?

As long as you stay away from vulgarities and downright spiteful insults and humiliating remarks, I'm ok with it.

You were cutting it close though. But I see you are learning to tone down your comments as well.

Good boy.

At 3:57 AM, Blogger uglybaldie said...

huh?

Don't be too sure about that!

It's always exhilarating to poke some fun at you!

"Good boy"?

You are betrayed by uttering these two words.

Do you call your father or grandfather "boy'?

Bet you do. It figures.....

Please don't thrash me. I didn't say anything vulgar or spiteful ok. Just stating the facts based on what you write!

Hee Hee.

Sorry about that. Lost in translation and definitely bad writing from me lah.

When I said "Good boy" I mean it as in like "Boy, that's good!"

Figure of speech lah. Wasn't calling you "good boy" like how one would praise their pet male dog.

Apologies if I offended you unintentionally.

Uglybaldie, please refrain from insulting people.

If you do this again I will have to delete your comments.

I want this place to have only clean civil fun.

It's my blog. Please respect that. If not then I have no choice but to do what I feel is good for my blog.

Have a good day.

Hee Hee.

Good morning doc.

Huh? who is insulting who?

I am all for good clean fun boy.

It sure is your blog but unfortunately the internet don't belong to you. Even Mr. Gates dare not say he owns the net.

Cheer up lah.

By the way, how's the OZ stuff coming along. Who knows, we may even be neighbours! My neighbours may want to downgrade. Any interests in a waterfront property?
